Biography

Everyone has a dream of what they want to be when they grow up. You hear all kinds of options. For Erik Rhyne, he pursued his aspirations to be a professional athlete. Unfortunately, he was not that gifted and gave up on that dream, but still wanted to being around the sports, world. 

Beginning in the Spring of 2005 Erik began his adventures in the world of journalism by joining The Appalachian, the student run newspaper at Appalachian State University. While at the paper, Erik began as an Intern Sports Writer, rising to the position of Sports Editor in 2007. 

Away from the school paper, he had opportunities to further his knowledge with Coman Publishing and Appalachian Sports Information. These gave him more real world experience than the paper could offer. 

By 2010, Erik had to withdraw from Appalachian State, for a multitude of reasons. It was unclear if a life in Journalism was for him. 

Journalism wasn't done with him though. From 2012 - 2014, he worked for multiple gaming websites, that were centered around video gamesStar Wars: The Old Republic, and World of Warcraft. While not static it gave him enough chances to continue to hone his skills and avoiding the chance of them going to waste. 

By 2016, he knew what to do: finish his degree. Reaching out to Appalachian he began to slow and arduous process to enroll to finish what he started in 2004. 

While completing his degree, Erik had an internship with dotFM, where he helped lay the foundation and build the audience for their sports section Front Row Sports. He also continued his life as freelance, with opportunities with the Watauga Democrat of Boone, NC, as well as maintaining a personal blog of his own.  

 

Clearly he's ready for his next challenge. The question to ask: Is the world ready?
